16th January. Late afternoon. Caolu Town, Shanghai. I’m after the semester exam. A little bit tired and hungry I come back home and grab some snacks to kill the hunger feeling the more increased by a stress. It’s normal before holidays, these last days seems last too long.
I’m wondering where to go and what to eat. And it is, the great idea just came like TGV which arrived in hurry. Since the last month I was planning to eat Katong Laksa. A kind of Thai or some Indo-Chinese dish well recommended by one my friends.
The will to eat this dish was too strong that the feeling of being hungry came back as fast as it was gone right after I took the first bites of the bread sticks I consumed rapidly.
I browsed in the app called “Public Comments” (Chinese: 大众点评), where you can write what are you searching for to buy, to eat, etc.; and the app matches results within location where you can get that what you’re looking for.
My destination is Changshou 189 Mall at Jing’an District. It’s nearby Line 7 and Line 13.
I’m getting Line 9 and heading to Zhaojiabang Road Station where I just interchange with Line 7! OH MY GOD! The only He knows how much I suffered to await these moments like this I can reach City Center just in 25 minuets and this certain station I go just in 50 minutes! Sounds ridiculous, huh? 50 minutes? It was the amount of time I could reach just City Center itself counting that I wanted to reach the area of Century Avenue Station…
It’s almost 3-4 weeks line 9 was opened in Caolu Town and still I get excited because of that fact.
With a such excitement I reach Zhaojiabang Road. Only 4 Station are left to reach a Mall with Katong Laksa. After 15 minutes I’m arriving at restaurant with Laksa dishes.
The first impression was “Hey, but it looks like a Chinese hot-pot or some restaurant where you can pick some ingredients you want to fry in Chinese way and it’ll be served with noodles.
Luckily, I was wrong. Of course, you can choose your own ingredients like: a crab ball, Huainan lettuce, green broccoli, and so on; but it’s served in soup I’D NEVER EXPECT to eat here in China!
The base of soup is a fish bullion, which tastes similarly to what I’ve ate in Poland in city of Ustka. There in one restaurant called SYRENA (Eng. Mermaid) is served a soup made inter alia from Zander fish mixed with lemon juice… This is how Katong Laksa tastes like and THIS IS HEAVEN to my mouth.
It’s good, that soup, this dish is a little bit spicy, because I’m not eating rapidly and I can really enjoy each taste at once!
Such a thought came to me in halfway to end a soup: What do I like in date I eat Katong Laksa for the first time? Each 16th day of month is very special to my friend who like this dish with unlimited love! And it’s nice feeling I can enjoy this dish in this day.
Though at the moment I eat alone, with this writing I share my happiness that’s all the time to you, my friend, for you inspired me to do many good things including doing these writings like here!
With this pleasure in my mind, I’m ending sipping the last portion of what’s left in a bowl that was full of Laksa! Reader: If you never tried this dish before, have a try one day!
Me as a guy who like to experience new culinary, new flavors, dishes; I’m completed right now and can’t do anything else just have a sit and watch other people eating Laksa around me!
It’s perfect dish for the weather like this I have in Shanghai right now! It’s pretty cold, though temperature doesn’t drop below 0C. However, the humidity and wind, they make real-feel temperature lower and the only hot soup or tea can warm you really up! As I did!
Now, well served with Katong Laksa, well fed, I can go outside to have a walk.
It’s around 7 o’clock. I’m taking bus 24路 to reach Tianzifang to have a walk around this place. In meantime of passing by Middle Huaihai Road, after some time of having my mind switched off and immersed in music; such a question came to me at this moment I passed this road: Do we have something in our life we can even glorify and share our favor to other people that much they will like something or try something we like? Do you have something in your life what you’re doing with passion, what makes you happy, makes your life have a sense?
One of those things is that now I can take Line 9 directly to home, to place I study! I promised myself not to mention too much again and again how much happy I’m because of Line 9 in my area. That’s why I end this writing right now, before I start another chapter with another thought or thoughts through I have!
